So this morning when I woke up - I was tired. There are so many amazing things happening for me right now - in life and in business...and yet, I woke up tired. Now, for someone like me, who prides themselves in always bringing a certain level of energy, commitment and creativity to everything I do - No matter what that is - Waking up tired and not energised, and not ready to conquer the world... Well, it left me feeling like a personal failure to be honest. Well, that was my knee-jerk reaction to the feelings of being tired, anyway.
And following on from that I naturally did what I always naturally do when I am feeling any emotion with which I have a negative connoctation... I ignored it. Tired? Ba, Who's tired? Not me. I pushed on. I kept going. And then...something clicked in my mind. As I was prioritising and planning my epic mountain of workload for the day I realised... Nestene, we can do this the hard way, or we can do this the easy way. But you need to realise that you have a choice right now as to which way it is going to be.
I also realised that I want to enjoy my work and what I do each day. Not only that - I want to be the best at what I do and what I deliver every day, including this work, on this day. And that was simply not possible if I was in a negative state... It must've been the teachings of Natalie Joel, which I've been listening to religiously since she started teaching on our #fempreneur course that brought me to this realisation...because it was unprecedented for me.
As #entrepreneurs, #fempreneurs and proud #EconomicWarriors we tend to wear our stress as a badge of honor. The amount of hours we work in a day becomes something to boast about. When we get up, look in the mirror and see the tiredness underneath our eyes, we smile, because the tiredness has become a testimony to our shear willpower, determination and our ability to survive, in virtually any economic environment.
There's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with taking pride in being a hard worker; a good worker, an epically dedicated worker, but sometimes we also need to take a step back... Think of why we are doing what we are doing. How are we doing what we are doing? And are we truely making the best choices for us right now and for our future selves by doing this?
When we are functioning in a tired state, the changes are subtle, but they are there... Slowly we feel our subconscious mind slipping into a bit more negativity. We feel the frustration emerging from beneath our calm and collected skin. We might be more prone to making rash decisions. We might not communicate as effectively, because we are so aware of the scarcity of our time.
This is when we need to breathe. Yes, breathe. Not because you can't keep going like this - You definitely can. You're a strong #entrepreneur, #fempreneur, #EconomicWarrior, but because you owe yourself the chance to make sure that what you are doing and how you are doing, is still in line with where you want to go, who you want to be, and who you are becoming.
Because as entrepreneurs we are constantly becoming... And that in itself is beautiful. Anyway, long story short, I took my own (or Natalie Joel's) advice for a change this morning and I stopped what I was doing. I put my to-do list making on hold and I searched for a guided morning meditation that could help me just relax for a bit, so that I could 'wake up' energised, ready to tackle the day and with a better, more self-aware idea, of what I was fighting for this day. I found this gem of a video on personal transformation, change and butterflies.
And I am proud to say I completely embraced and enjoyed the meditative experience. I remember now where I am going and why I am going there. I know what I am fighting for and I am quite pleased that I even remembered to stop and smell the roses along the way. I am not tired anymore. My subconcious is now clear on this. I have energy, because I've reclaimed my place in the universe.
Just wanted to share this with you this morning. And if you are perhaps feeling a bit like I did this morning - at any point in time - I want to encourage you to take those 30 minutes, listen to this video, take heart, and take pride in what you do and who you are, because, as Natalie Joel always says... YOU ARE WORTH IT!
